Biomedical optoelectronics is not a completely new field. On the contrary, it has existed for a long time, covering optical therapy, medical imaging and biosensing; its main applications include early diagnostic monitoring of clinical medical lesions, or with light guidance ( Light-guided), light-activated related disease treatment. "The current global biomedical optoelectronics market is being driven by four factors," said IWU industry analyst Huang Yanzhen, a structural change in medical needs; the rise of personal preventive medicine concepts; minimally invasive treatment and medical beauty; and The huge demand for basic medical care in emerging markets, represented by India, is driving the transformation of the entire biomedical optoelectronics market.

Especially in the two major markets of China and India, Huang Yanzhen said that the new medical reform policy in mainland China will invest 850 billion yuan in 2009-2011 to improve rural medical coverage. India is implementing the National Rural Health Plan. The total medical construction expenditure from 2005 to 2010 will increase from about 0.9% of GDP to 2~3%. It is estimated that the country's medical construction expenditure will reach US$4.35 billion in 2010.

In 2010, the population of China and India was 1.33 billion and 1.17 billion, respectively, accounting for 19.5% and 17.2% of the world's total. The demand for basic medical facilities in these two markets is rising. For example, “India has become the country with the largest number of patients with diabetes in the world,” Huang said. The export of medical equipment in Taiwan has always been the largest in terms of electric scooters, but this situation will change from 2010. Beginning this year, blood glucose meters and test strips will leap to the largest medical equipment export project in Taiwan.

In addition to traditional medical equipment, the demand for medical high-resolution screens, lighting products (LED surgical lights), affordable X-ray imaging equipment and physiological monitoring devices has also increased rapidly in emerging markets.

With strong experience in the development of the electronics industry, Taiwanese manufacturers have always had advantages in miniaturization and integration, said Zhang Ciying, manager of the IEK Life and Biomedical Group.
