According to foreign media reports, Richard Ledgett, deputy director of the National Security Agency (NSA), told the audience at the Defense One Technology Summit in Washington, DC last weekend that if the bad guys use IoT medical equipment , the NSA will not rule out the intrusion of these devices to collect intelligence. Ledgett said NSA has been trying to find new sources to collect data related to foreign threat intelligence, and IoT devices are an ideal medium for collecting such data due to lack of security defenses and a large number of security holes.
The official said that the NSA did not actively crack all Internet of Things systems, but usually used equipment that was exploited by bad guys or foreign threat intelligence organizations. Ledgett added that NSAs have no restrictions on the types of IoT devices, and they also invade IoT medical devices, including pacemakers.
Ledgett said he sees all IoT devices as another attack tool in the NSA's growing toolbox.
