The disease is caused by the fungus Rhizoctonia solani. The pathogenic bacteria are mycelium and sclerotium that live in the soil for winter, and have strong saprophytic properties. They can survive in the soil for 2-3 years, leading to large tomato seedlings or the onset of initial plant growth. The germ development is suitable for temperature 24°C and the highest is 40-42°C.

In the later stages of the disease, sclerotia of different sizes are often formed on dark brown surfaces.
Second, prevention and control measures
(I) Agricultural control 1. Select disease-resistant varieties.
2. Strengthen cultivation management. Planting should pay attention to remove diseased seedlings, seedlings should not be too deep when planting, rainy days to rule out the accumulation of water on the ground, soil should not be too high, in order to reduce the incidence of planting fields. 3. Strengthen field management. Planting sites were selected for planting with non-solanum crops for more than three years. After the onset of colonization, the soil can be applied to the base of the stem. Apply 40% of the double-seeded double-side wettable powder (9 g) per square meter of topsoil. Mix well and then cover the soil at the base of the diseased plant. Then bury the diseased part and grow it above the lesion. Adventitious roots can extend life expectancy and gain output.
(2) Chemical control Spray 40% of the double powder suspension 800 times, or use 20% methyl-precipitate EC 1200 times, to spray the stem base of the plant.
