Forensic Toxicology Screening with UPLC I-Class/Xevo TQD System

Introduction <br> toxicology screening laboratories need a wide range of detection techniques in complex biological matrices highly toxic substances, such as living body sample and autopsy samples and the like. Two alternative toxicology screening methods were developed previously, both using the ACQUITY UPLC System and ACQUITY® TQD 1-3 . These two complementary methods allows users to take full advantage of the strengths and targeted MRM acquisition method of screening high-sensitivity full-scan data 4.

These methods have been successfully applied in more than 100 laboratories around the world, including laboratories with little or no experience in LC/MS. With the advent of next-generation instruments that provide better functionality and performance, people are beginning to focus on how to apply these powerful and sophisticated screening methods to new systems. This application note provides an initial evaluation of the suitability of the two existing screening methods for the ACQUITYUPLC I-Class System and the Xevo TQD Mass Spectrometer.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the usefulness of the ACQUITY UPLC® I-Class System and Xevo® TQD MS in forensic toxicology screening, as well as to evaluate existing chromatographic methods in conjunction with existing full-scan MS and MRM methods 1-3 in this Applicability on the new platform.
