Neurotransmitters are transmitted to the amygdala by cholinergic neurons, which are present in the brain tissue. When the neurotransmitters in the amygdala gradually increase, the emotional memory will be enhanced. To simulate specific cholinergic neurons, researchers use light to control living tissue cells. This method is called "photo-genetic method."
Dr. Lorna Role, director of the Department of Neurobiology and Behavior at Stony Brook University School of Medicine, said: "The memory of the emotional change experience is very strong, positive or negative. Our research goal will determine the mechanism of memory intensity. They found that when traumatic memory is formed, the release of acetylcholine from the amygdala will increase, and as the memory gradually increases, the memory duration will be twice that of normal memory.
