How to scientifically manage the pod-setting period of carob

Beans are highly adaptable. They can be cultivated in open fields or in protected areas. They can also be produced on an annual basis. They are listed in four seasons. They are one of the popular vegetables widely cultivated in northern my country, and their popularity ranks first among all kinds of vegetables. So how to manage the pod-setting period of carob beans scientifically?

How to manage the pod-setting period of carob beans scientifically?

1. Adjust the plant

Carob beans need to be supported by brackets. This is an agronomic skill for carob beans to make full use of natural light to make nutrition and improve output value. When the carob vine climbs over the stent, the method of pinching off the top can be used to promote the germination and growth of the side branches. Regarding prosperous plants, reduce the use of nitrogen fertilizers and spray plant regulators such as chlormequat. Remove old leaves, diseased leaves or residual leaves in the lower part in time to ensure ventilation and light transmission of the scaffolding.

2. Water and fertilizer management

The root system of carob is relatively weak, not tolerant to drought and waterlogging. The soil should be kept dry and wet. The pod-setting period is also a period when the carob is very sensitive to water and fertilizer. If the supply of fertilizer and water is not enough, it will be difficult to ensure its output value and quality. For this reason, when the carob is in the flowering period, it is necessary to strengthen the management of water and fertilizer in the pod setting period.

On the basis of adequate application of plantar fertilizer, combined with watering, 15 kg of nitrogen and potassium fertilizer, or 10 kg of urea and 5 kg of potassium sulfate are applied per mu of land each time, mixed and evenly applied. After entering the pod-setting period, top dressing should be done about 10 days later. The sprinkling is mainly small water, carried out in the evening or early morning.

3. Prevention of diseases and pests

In production, the common diseases of carob mainly include virus disease and rust disease. Continued high temperature and drought are often prone to virus disease. Use 300 times virus A or 500 times Phytophyllum spray for prevention and control. Rust is prone to occur under high temperature and high humidity, so use triadimefon spray to prevent it. Common insect pests are mainly aphids, red spiders, and bean pod borers. 10% imidacloprid can be used to control aphids, and 10 grams of medicine per acre of land can be used for water spray control.

Use pyridaben spray to prevent spider mites, and spray the back of the leaves when working. Use high-efficiency cypermethrin 1000 times solution to control bean pod borer. Spray the medicine every 7 to 10 days, and use the medicine 2 to 3 times in succession.

4. Spray leaf fertilizer

Entering June, the outside natural gas temperature will often present a high temperature above 30°C. The sun has enough sunlight, and the high temperature and strong light will adversely affect the production value of carob in the pod-setting period. In production, it is often manifested as falling flowers and pods, premature aging and other phenomena. After spraying foliar fertilizer, the above phenomenon can be effectively solved, and the output value of carob can be obviously improved. Use a mixture of boron fertilizer and potassium dihydrogen phosphate to spray evenly, with 30 kg of liquid medicine per mu, spray once every 10 days.

5. Timely harvest

Carob beans generally reach the harvest specifications about 10 days after flowering. The harvesting time is generally in the early morning or dusk, when the temperature is low, do not bruise the flower buds or twist the bean stalks when picking, so as to prevent the impact on the later production value. Regarding the picked beans, they are placed in bamboo baskets in regular sizes, covered with quilts to keep them fresh, and sold in a farmer’s market or bazaar in time.
