The seven major medical consumer markets are emerging in the US

PWC, an international accounting firm of PricewaterhouseCoopers, recently published a research report entitled "Basic Medical Services in a New Health Care Economy: Reversing the Beginning of the Situation."

The report points out the important functions of basic medical services. Basic medical care is not a defender of the old, divided medical system. It will open up the existing medical system and deliver quality, simple, value-for-money and better medical services to the public. .

The core of the basic medical market is undergoing changes. Facing the new payment system and the aging of the population, the health department is trying to rebuild the basic medical ecosystem to regain the simple belief that medical treatment is a cure.

As far as the United States is concerned, the government spends $3.2 trillion annually on health care. By 2020, 8.1 million Americans will be suffering from chronic diseases. Digital technology expands the main body of medical implementation, providing non-medical personnel with the possibility of preventing diseases and self-service, while also reducing costs.

Compared with the paid service system that has followed for decades, grassroots medical care is brave enough to challenge the old concept and gradually exert its value. The PWC Health Research Association (HRI) predicts that the number of doctors may reach 90,000 by 2025. The report is based on interviews with 25 industry executives, including business and academia, and surveyed 1,500 clinicians and 1,000 consumers, eventually discovering:

1 Service payers are looking for basic medical care to save money. For example, 48% of corporate employers in the United States chose telemedicine services for employees in 2015.

2 Consumers choose the standard of basic medical care that is best suited to the existing lifestyle. Eighty percent of the respondents indicated that they are willing to accept innovative basic medical care.

3 New entrants are stirring the situation and changing the basic medical model. Newcomers in the circle are providing convenient and valuable medical services to meet the needs of more users. There are five main ways: convenient treatment, doctor visits, individual medical care, digital medical care , and nursing care.

4 Traditional practitioners are changing their minds to adapt to changes in the new era: one-third of doctors say they have changed their business models to create entirely new medical services.

5 Seven core consumer markets are emerging: companies must cater to the seven consumer markets – the frail elderly, consumers with complex chronic diseases, mentally ill patients, healthy families, and enthusiasm and suspicion of adulthood.

HRI offers three major recommendations for the existing healthcare sector:

1 Know the areas that you are good at and identify the client. Consumers currently have a multi-dimensional interaction with the expert group. Therefore, in the consumer market, the health status, income, age and other factors of the user should be considered comprehensively to match the appropriate medical staff.

2 Explore new roles. Nurses, pharmacists, behavioral health experts, and other non-physicians are increasingly important in upgrading basic medical services, and primary care providers are also taking on new roles to accommodate different needs;

3 Find cooperation in the most valuable places: One-third of physicians and companies, manufacturers, and clinics are gradually establishing cooperation. Including telecom companies and data companies have adopted market-tested means to continue to expand the market. New partners also include community organizations, churches, and more.
