Feeding management of pregnant ewes

The gestation period of the breeding ewes is 5 months. According to the development of the fetus, the gestation period can be divided into the pre-pregnancy period and the late pregnancy period. Pre-pregnancy refers to the first 3 months of pregnancy, and late pregnancy refers to 2 months after pregnancy.

In the early pregnancy, due to the slow development of the fetus, there is no obvious difference between the required nutrients and the empty period. Therefore, it should be kept in accordance with the method of empty period, and the focus is still on catching the sputum and maintaining a good degree. In the summer season, grasses are still mainly fed, and it is possible to decide whether or not to feed the concentrate according to the nymph's condition. In the winter due to the lack of green forage grass, the nutritional value of forage grasses declines, and the nutritional needs of ewes cannot be met, so feed supplements must be considered.

In breeding, it is necessary to use mainly fetal protection. In the summer, do not feed with forage grass that has deteriorated by mildew; in the winter, do not feed forage grass and frost grass with ice, and do not drink ice and water, so as to avoid miscarriage and falling.

During the second trimester of pregnancy, the fetus grows quickly. 90% of the lamb's birth weight is completed during this period. Therefore, if the ewes supply insufficient nutrients during this period, there will be a series of adverse consequences. It is generally difficult to meet the nutritional needs of the ewes by grazing alone. In the later stages of ewes' pregnancy, supplements must be strengthened. High-quality hay and concentrates should be supplemented at this time. Attention should be paid to the supplement of protein, calcium and phosphorus. In the late pregnancy, the feed amount of each concentrate is about 0.6 kg per day, and the protein level in concentrates is generally 15% to 18%. The energy level should not be too high. Do not raise the ewes too well to avoid adverse effects on the fetus. Generally, when feeding and feeding, 1.0 to 1.5 kg of hay is fed on day, 1.0 to 2.0 kg of silage is mixed, and 0.6 kg of mixed concentrate is fed.

For the management of ewes in the latter part of pregnancy, care should be taken to guard against miscarriage. Grazing, grazing, drinking and feeding should be slow and steady to prevent crowding and slipping, and to prevent jumps and running ditch, preferably on a relatively flat ranch. Grazing, the sheep house should be kept warm, dry and well ventilated.
