The new study was completed by a research team led by Dr. Anbu Sakata of Tohoku University School of Medicine in Japan, involving nearly 14,000 participants aged at least 65 years old. The results showed that the oldest people who drink green tea have the lowest risk of “functional disability†within three years. The so-called "functional disability" refers to the inability to complete some daily activities such as going to shopping malls, doing household chores, and wearing clothes and bathing.
The researchers found that people who love green tea eat more healthy foods and have more fish and fruits and vegetables. These people are more educated, have lower smoking rates, have fewer heart attacks and strokes, and are more alert. In addition, people who love to drink green tea are more active and have more friends. Dr. Antian Putian pointed out that the elderly have a smaller risk of drinking green tea with fractures and disability. The principle remains to be further studied.
