Qualcomm Layout Internet of Things Mobile medical and smart wear is indispensable

Qualcomm is the world's largest mobile chip maker, but as the smartphone business grows in mature markets, Qualcomm is looking for new opportunities to sustain expansion, and Qualcomm is targeting the Internet of Things. According to market research firm IDC, by 2020, the value of the Internet of Things will increase to $3.04 trillion.

“We have invested $33 billion in the R&D department. When others have not responded, we have foreseen the industry trend and set up a special investment department to promote the development of the industry,” Derek said.

In an exclusive interview, Derek shared Qualcomm's major layouts in the Internet of Things.

First, mobile medical . Derek said that Qualcomm hopes to reduce medical costs through technology and provide convenient services for patients. To this end, Qualcomm will work with many pharmaceutical companies, and has already established cooperation with us including the chain pharmacy Walgreens and the pharmaceutical manufacturer Novartis.

Now the mobile health sector is undergoing a revolution, and Qualcomm will use their wireless technology to provide remote monitoring for patients to get the corresponding data.

Second, smart wearable. Derek said that Qualcomm has introduced a number of wearable chips, and the smart watches currently on the market use Qualcomm's Snapdragon processors. Qualcomm has established contacts with many smart watch manufacturers, including Samsung and Apple.

Third, smart home. One problem with smart homes today is that interconnection between different devices is not possible. In this regard, Derek said that Qualcomm has created a project called AllJoyn, which allows different devices to download an application, so that refrigerators, air conditioners, TVs, etc. are truly connected.

Derek also shared other areas of the Internet of Things, such as smart cities, smart cars, etc. At this year's CES show, Derek announced the construction of the smart car industry and the launch of connected cars. He believes that Qualcomm has seen endless opportunities in these areas.
